I learned about how to make good stories and the characters were great (I knew them from the other Edmarks) It also kept me entertained for as long as my Mom would let me play. Jumpstart 3D Virtual World: The Legend of Grizzly McGuffin

I bought this for my 4 year old son and he soon finished it and of course wanted more. Initially I wasn’t too crazy about paying the extra per month for membership but I discovered you can download the additional 3D games (rather than buying them at the store) allowing my son to continue his progress without interuption.
He’s now 5 and understands the concept of fractions (uh hello?). Once you’ve downloaded the last level (2nd grade?) you can cancel your monthly membership and it still serves it’s purpose (mostly because some of the games go beyond 2nd grade ie, long/short division etc.)
So for …it’s not a bad deal + a) it’s educational & b) jumpstart sends a weekly email telling you how your child is progressing, and besides c) how much would some toy that they’d forget about within a week and doesn’t challege them set you back? [..]

Instead of waiting for the shipment to arrive I downloaded on Friday and was done with our taxes and our daughter’s taxes by Sunday morning. Our taxes are slightly complicated with several schedules and forms. All the forms and rules/laws are up to date as in IRS’s website. The program checks for update everytime you start.
Our data from 2008 Tax Cut were imported without error. Also the data from fed returns smoothly transferred to the State return. E-filing was also smooth. They have 5 free fed e-filing, so we didn’t have to pay extra for additional return filed. Only “complain” we had was that we had to pay .95 for e-filing each State return. For convenient and faster refund (from previous experience) we opted to pay the extra and e-filed the state returns.
I don’t understand why people give one star rating for this product because they had problem installing/downloading from Amazon on their Vista machines. Have you thought about that it could be a Vista problem? I have Windows XP and this product worked very smoothly without a problem.

Adventure Workshop 4th-6th Grade Mix 4 (Zoombinis Mountain Rescue, Carmen Sandiego’s Think Quick Challenge, The Yukon Trail)

cd #1 – the carmen sandiego game is very fun. excellent questions that really stimulate learning and challenges. covers a variety of different subjects so it never gets boring. when there are too many wrong answers in a certain skill, the game goes back to that specific skill to drill the player until the player improves. it allows for more than one player so my son and i played against each other. (of course i let him beat me to answer to get him to do the questions.)
cd #2 – the zoombinis (i think that’s what it’s called) game is also a very fun game. this game is mainly about problem solving. it’s a series of puzzles (greatly varied) that slowly get more challenging. the only change i would make is to have more control on the level of difficulty. it became a little too difficult, too quickly for my son. a bit frustrating for him.
cd #3 – pretty much a waste. yukon trail is a very boring game. we went through it once and never looked at it again.
2 out of 3 games is not too shabby. a very important thing to note is that it takes a pretty powerful computer to use the carmen sandiego game. i couldn’t use it on my home pc or work laptop, the game would just freeze up – so we had to go use it at my sister’s. if your computer isn’t very powerful, don’t buy it. but as long as you have a powerful computer you won’t have this problem.
